If your application is refused, you will be informed of the reasons for this refusal with a letter and you may lodge an appeal. The letter outlining the refusal reasons will specify the address to which an appeal should be sent.
An appeal can be made within two months of receipt of the refusal notice, and must be made in writing – fax or email appeals will not be considered. Visa appeals must be submitted by post directly to the Visa Office in New Delhi (VFS will no longer accept appeals).
There is no charge for lodging an appeal.
The following should be done when lodging an appeal:
You should address each refusal reason in your appeal.
You should supply clear and relevant evidence in your appeal that will address any deficiencies in your initial application.
Any further information or documentation that you wish to have taken into account should also be included with your appeal letter.
On receipt of your appeal, the Appeals Officer will review the application, taking account of any additional information or documentation that you have supplied. Provision of additional material does not guarantee approval of the application on appeal.
Explanation of Visa Refusal Terms you might see and how you can counteract them in your original application:
|ID: Insufficient documentation||This is easily avoided by ensuring you include everything asked for in the documentation table above.This may also be the case if any of your documents have not been translated to English
This may also appear if you have not completed the application form (make sure it is signed also)
|F: Finances||This will be shown if you do not include sufficient documentation, if documents are of poor quality or if you have not provided contact details for your bank
It will also show if your finances have been deemed insufficient to support you for the time you are studying Students MUST include all financial documentation as shown above. Anything less will be deemed insufficient. If you are unsure if whether to include something or not then include it!
|PF: Public Funds||The granting of your visa may result in costs to Public Funds|
|PR: Public Resources||The granting of your visa may result in costs to Public Resources|
|R: Reference in Ireland||You have shown no clear reference in Ireland.
This will be in relation to your offer letter. Start dates must not have passed.
|RH: Relationship History||This does not apply for Student Visas|
|IH: Immigration History of Applicant|
|P: Passport||You will see this if your passport has is due to expire within the next 6 months or if you have not signed your passport|
|VR Previous Visa refusal(s)||If you have previously had a visa refusal and your situation has not changed since then|
|INCO: Inconsistencies||Inconsistencies e.g. contradictions in the information supplied e.g. dates / residence / occupation / finances. Be sure all information is clear and honest|
|SP: Student Profile||You will see this if you have not provided the relevant English Language Test score.
You may also see this if you have applied for a course that does not match your prior education or if you have gaps in your education history.
Be sure to make reference to either of the above in your personal statement/cover letter and give reasoning to why you have chosen your course or have gaps.
|CP: Course Profile||You have not demonstrated the need to undertake the course in this state – You have not shown the impact that studying this course in Ireland will benefit you.|
|OB: Obligation||This will be shown if you have not demonstrated your obligation to return home after your studys, you have not clearly shown your professional, economic & social ties at home clearly enough.|
|OC: Observe the conditions||The visa sought is for a specific purpose and duration, and the applicant has not satisfied the visa officer that such conditions would be observed –
• The applicant may overstay following his/her proposed visit, or
• Work illegally in the State, or
• Branch into the common travel area
• The potential cost of this trip is high in comparison to the applicant’s means, and given that no compelling reasons for the trip have been displayed, the visa officer is not satisfied of your intentions to leave the State following your visit.
